I was at great world city and about to watch a movie when a little push cart caught my eye… ORGANICS! I went over to investigate and found Patrick and Audrey and their little boy Callum. They were passionate about what they were doing and how they had made choices that had changed their lifes path.. Soon they moved to a little corner in the Holland Village shopping center. I am a regular at their shop, be it for clothes, food, great wooden toys or their amber teething necklaces, there is always something interesting there to be found.

Put your money where your mouth is–that was the natural direction for Patrick and Audrey, the happy parents of a lovely child, as they grappled with the challenges of eco-friendly living. In 2009, the couple decided to forgo the “tried and tested” Singaporean way of life by starting a retail boutique specializing in organic baby products in the heart of Holland Village. To date, the fledgling store has become increasingly popular with like-minded parents. We caught up with co-founder, Audrey See, to chat about the origins of Love For Earth.
Q: What inspires you to do what you do?
A: Our boy. After having Callum, our first child, we started reading about baby safety and found out more about chemical, toxins and lots of unpleasant stuffs that goes into baby products. Slowly, we read about these harmful substances that not only harm our children but also our Earth. We started to change our lifestyle (to the best we can) so as to provide a safer environment for our child and towards a sustainable future for him.
Q: What did you do in your former, pre-green life?
A: My husband, Patrick was the Portal Editor for Avaya Singapore while I was a stay-home mom.
Q: Why the change?
A: We hope to achieve a sustainable lifestyle for the future of all children.
Q: Do you find it a struggle to educate customers about your products?
A: When we first started this business about a year and half ago, it was much tougher than now because they have a certain mindset about the green notion. As now organic food stuff and eco-products are slowly creeping into our local shops, Singaporeans are getting more aware though the purpose behind going green is still confusing for some. But talking to them now, about our products is easier cos they are less intimidated by it as they are seeing or hearing more of the term organic or eco-friendly.
Q: What percentage of people do you find that are informed of the issues the earth is facing?
A: We would have to say its about 20-30%. Most of them would have heard about certain issues about the environment but not all are doing their part in preserving our planet.
Q: Is this number increasing?
A: I believe this number is increasing. There are more green campaigns started by agencies and companies such as SEC, NEA to promote more green movement. However, I strongly believe all of us need to step up and make a conscious effort towards a sustainable future.
Q: Do you find that people struggle with the higher price points?
A: Most of our customers do agreed that our organic products are slightly higher priced (then conventional products) but they appreciated the quality that organic has to offer.
