Flash Floods, Eng Neo Avenue, 5 June 2011

Today marks the 11th UN-sponsored World Environment Day, and we don’t think there’s a better way to make Singapore’s newest Environment Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, sit up and take note about the environment than a couple of flash floods famously touted by his predecessor as “once-in-50-year” events.

Today’s a good day to think about how we want Dr Balakrishnan to lead us on environmental issues. Today’s a good day to tell Dr Balakrishnan that we’re behind him in wanting to make Singapore a world leader in green living.

Today’s a good day to tell Dr Balakrishnan that it’s not just about promoting Singapore’s business and economic interests.

Today’s a good day to tell Dr Balakrishnan that we’re ok with putting solar panels on every HDB rooftop; that we’re glad there’s NeWater; that we’ve some of the best nature reserves in the world; that we want more bike lanes…

Tell him! He’s started work already!
