bluelagoonBlue Lagoon’s 25 simple, elegant and green villas perch on a hill overlooking Padangbai and the famous Blue Lagoon snorkeling site in East Bali. Bloo Lagoon (www.bloolagoon.com) was built as an environmentally sustainable eco-village and opened officially in January 2009. The founders of Bloo Lagoon are very conscious of the resort’s relationship not only to the “green” land ecosystem but also the “bloo” ocean ecosystem below. Decisions made on the land have a big impact on the fish, turtles and living coral of the Lagoon.

The resort was designed using the latest green technology including the use of light emitting diodes (LED’s) that give good balanced light whilst consuming only 4 watts each, treating using ionisation for water purification in the swimming pool to minimize chemical use, construction of water reservoirs to conserve water, using solar electricity to pump water, using waste water gardens, and composting and improving the soil and planting vegetable gardens in each house and growing vegetables up the site’s stone walls.

The Bloo Lagoon site is also designated a forestry conservation zone and is home to acacias, cashews and other drought tolerant, shade providing species. The villas were built between the existing trees and landscaping was adopted with the same drought tolerant plants and plants well adapted to the windy and dry conditions of Padangbai. The very rich ocean below is also designated a conservation zone. This is definitely a place to check out next time you’re in Bali and you’re looking for a green holiday!
