Shoe Donations For Orphange Accepted At Sloane Clinic Until 30 September

To commemorate Children’s Day this October, the Sloane Clinic will be holding a donation drive to collect old shoes for children at the Panti Anugerah Orphanage in Bintan, Indonesia. We think this is a great idea that actually helps the children directly. For every pair dropped off at the collection points outside the three clinics (see listings), The Sloane Clinic will match the donation with one brand new pair of shoes for the orphans. (We’re doing some serious Spring Cleaning in Sept to get rid of our old shoes and sneakers for this great cause.)

“It’s about time we started giving back to the society. It’s amazing how little these children need to be contented, so let’s all try to do our part to bring some joy into their lives today,” says Nadya Hutagalung, who’s helping The Sloane Clinic to advocate this project.

In fact, the shoe collection drive was conceptualized during a recent staff retreat to Bintan when The Sloane Clinic team of 20 doctors and nurses visited the orphanage to interact with the children. The team was motivated to be change makers upon learning that the orphans are being ridiculed by their classmates as they walk to school every morning, barefooted.

“It was heart-wrenching to see the children deprived of basic necessities that many of us take for granted. Since we have so many pairs of shoes to ourselves, we thought, why not lend a hand to make their childhood more comfortable,” says Dr Low Chai Ling. The clinic is actively involved in several causes, especially the rehabilitation and education of disadvantaged children, women and the disabled.

All the donations will be presented to the orphanage to commemorate Children’s Day in October. The Panti Anugerah Orphanage houses 70 orphans from newborns to teenagers, regardless of gender and religion.

So gather up your old shoes and let’s do our part for the orphans!
