SINGAPORE
One Degree Up
The new home of Earth Hour global, Singapore will hit the dance floor this Earth Hour on The Float@Marina Bay, using the power of hundreds of dancing feet on a sustainable dance floor to power the event. The focus is the One Degree Up campaign for I Will If You Will which engages government, businesses, individuals and ambassadors to mo)vate people to go beyond the hour and set their air condi)oners at 24 degrees, leading to a tangible energy reduc)on. Well known celebri)es Nadya Hutagalung, Utt and YouTube stars Hirzi and Munah will aZend the event and have launched suppor)ve I Will If You Will challenges. The Earth Hour campaign is part of a larger partnership with government agencies to achieve significant cuts in emissions and resource usage.

Save the date, and help save the Earth.
Earth Hour 2011 will be held on 26 March 2011, and apart from the hour when, as usual, all lights will be turned off, there will be a concert (which will be powered by recycled cooking oil, just in case you’re wondering how eco-friendly a full-scale concert might be, and now that you know, here’s your chance to catch some music that may smell like banana fritters) at various points on the island, as well as a Walk For The Planet.
So, remember to set aside the hour (and a bit more) on 26th March, and join Nadya our Village Chief the official Earth Hour ambassador for the 3rd year running!
Here’s more information at the Earth Hour site (hosted by WWF), and here’s the official video trailer:

Dear Supporters and Friends
I hope this year has gotten off to a good start for you, I know it certainly has been a busy start for me with traveling turning up almost every week so far.
I wanted to share with you that I am up for a Shorty Award in the #Green category.. ( its like the Oscars but for twitter )
Currently I am ranked 8th in the world ahead of Leonardo DiCaprio and Sophia Bush, but need at least another 300 votes to be in the top 4.
If you feel I deserve an award in the Green category and you have a twitter account pls cast your vote n help spread the word :)
More Info can be found here:
http://shortyawards.com/Nadya_HutaGalng
And can directly tweet in this format:
I nominate @NadyaHutaGalng for a Shorty Award in #green because…( here you explain why )
Thank you so much for your 20 seconds of time! It would be so cool to be able to get into at least the top 6 and be able to share with the world what we are up to in asia!
I hope to see each of you very soon!

There’s this thing called the Shorty Awards, and as I write, Green Kampong’s Village Chief, Nadya Hutagalung is in 8th place in the #green category, ahead of such luminaries as Leonardo Di Caprio.
If you could use your twitter account and cut and paste and tweet the following, it would help propel her into the top 4 for a podium finish, and bring our little organisation some added exposure.
Here ’tis:
I nominate @Nadya_HutaGalng 4 Shorty Award in #green because [insert your reason]
Go there (or twitter) now! (We need a few hundred more tweets – can be done). Thank you thank you thank you!

One of the great things about being on the green team is the wealth of knowledge being shared by all involved.
I must, however, admit that the traffic’s not being reciprocated well enough by me just yet. Every day, I get enthusiastic emails from the people who started this site – Nadya and Desmond, with links to interesting things on the Great Wide Web to do with climate change and green living, and it’s been a great fortnight, picking up the habit and scouring the news and web for similar things.
So far, Nads tends to find the interesting things before I do, and I was contemplating naming a new section of the site “Nadya Surfs The Web For Green News So You Don’t Have To”.
I still don’t know how they do it – full-time jobs, full-time parenting – and they still put a known blogger to shame with their news clipping service. Maybe I spend too much time reading the stuff both Des and Nadya send me. I mean, look at the first link – a New Zealand company that makes mobile homes from cargo containers – I could hardly contain myself when I read it.
But for the expansion of your knowledge and for your reading pleasure, I’ve tacked on below, stuff that Nadya found in the past few days alone. If you find them interesting, informative and educational, pass them on. We need more knowledge sharing round these parts.
